In brief, the Battle of Waynesboro took place on March 2, 1865. Union soldiers, commanded by General George Armstrong Custer (under Gen. Phil Sheridan) defeated confederate soliders, commanded by General Jubal Early. It was the last battle for Gen. Jubal Early and it denied the confederacy the vital agricultural resources of the Shenandoah Valley forever.
